Thermal Comfort Laboratory
Our thermal comfort laboratory allows us to investigate how comfortable people will feel in a room heated with a particular appliance. This is determined by a range of factors including the distribution of air temperatures and radiant energy, air flows and humidity. All these parameters can be monitored and recorded.
The data can be analysed according to ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 55 to predict the proportion of people who will be dissatisfied in a given environment (PPD) and (on average) how comfortable people will feel (PMV).
We have used the laboratory to investigate a range of appliances including…
- Fan Heaters
- Radiant Heaters
- Oil Column Heaters
- Portable Air Conditioners
- Dehumidifiers
- Gas Heaters
